Scanning this shows the text itself rather than opening anything. It is what you want for a serial number on a label, an asset tag, a note inside a parcel or a word in a treasure hunt.
Any language works. The text is encoded as UTF-8, so accented characters, non-Latin scripts and emoji all survive - which is not true of every QR generator, several of which quietly produce an empty code.
Frequently asked questions
- Is anything I enter sent to a server?
- No. The QR code is generated by JavaScript running on your own device, and nothing you type - a Wi-Fi password, a phone number, a contact card - is uploaded, stored or logged. You can disconnect from the network after the page loads and it keeps working.
- Can I use characters that are not English?
- Yes. Text is encoded as UTF-8, so Japanese, Arabic, accented Latin and emoji all work. Some generators default to a Latin-1 encoding and produce a code that scans to an empty string, which is worse than an error because nothing looks wrong.
- Is the text hidden or encrypted?
- No. A QR code is a way of writing text so a camera can read it, not a way of concealing it. Anyone who scans it sees exactly what you put in.
- Do these codes expire, or need an account?
- No. The code contains the content itself rather than a link to us, so there is nothing to expire, nothing to track and no service that can stop working. Once you have downloaded it, it will keep scanning forever.
