About the phone qr code
The code contains a tel: link. Scanning it brings up the dialler with the number ready, so a passer-by can call in one tap.
Include the country code if anyone scanning might be abroad or roaming. A national-format number dials correctly at home and fails from anywhere else.
Frequently asked questions
- Is anything I enter sent to a server?
- No. The QR code is generated by JavaScript running on your own device, and nothing you type - a Wi-Fi password, a phone number, a contact card - is uploaded, stored or logged. You can disconnect from the network after the page loads and it keeps working.
- Does it call straight away?
- No. Every phone shows the number and waits for the person to confirm. No QR code can place a call on its own.
- What happens to brackets and spaces in the number?
- They are removed, since a tel: link needs digits. A bracketed zero after a country code - the (0) in +44 (0)20 - is also dropped, because that notation means to omit it when dialling internationally.
- Do these codes expire, or need an account?
- No. The code contains the content itself rather than a link to us, so there is nothing to expire, nothing to track and no service that can stop working. Once you have downloaded it, it will keep scanning forever.
